Technical SEO checklist: where to look first?

GetSeoHit team · Updated:

SHORT ANSWERIn technical SEO, first check whether pages load and can be indexed, then titles and content structure, and speed and fine-tuning last. Small improvements don’t help while a critical blocker remains.

1. Do pages load and index?

The costliest errors live here:

  • Does the page return 200?
  • Was noindex added by accident?
  • Does robots.txt block important pages?
  • Does the canonical point to the right address?

2. Can crawlers find pages?

Keep an XML sitemap current and reference it in robots.txt. Important pages should be reachable through real links.

3. Does the page say what it’s about?

Each page needs a unique title, description and one H1. Set the language correctly, and use hreflang on multilingual sites.

4. Structured data and sharing

Add Organization and schema for the page type. Open Graph tags set how shares look.

5. Speed and trust

Size images, cut unneeded scripts and enforce HTTPS. Read lab and real-user data separately.
